Best Sunsets in Tenerife

Where to Watch the Best Sunsets in Tenerife (Map + Photos)

There’s something magical about watching the sun melt into the Atlantic Ocean — and nowhere does it quite like Tenerife. Over the years, my wife and I have explored the island with our two girls, Hollie (8) and Emily (5), always chasing that perfect golden light.

From dramatic volcanic cliffs to calm golden beaches, Tenerife offers some of the most breathtaking sunset spots in the Canary Islands. Whether you prefer a quiet moment above the clouds near Mount Teide or a family-friendly beach in Costa Adeje, every part of the island offers a unique way to end the day.

In this guide, I’ve gathered our favourite Tenerife sunset locations, with photos, tips, and a handy map. I’ve also included insights from trusted local sources like AJJ Vans Canarias, Web Tenerife, and Guide to Canary Islands.

☀️ Why Tenerife Sunsets Are So Special

FeatureWhat Makes It Magical
Volcanic LandscapesThe black lava rock and red volcanic dust make the colours explode as the sun sets.
“Sea of Clouds” ViewsAt higher altitudes near Teide, you can literally watch the sun set above the clouds.
West-Facing CoastlineThe west and south coasts — especially Costa Adeje and Los Gigantes — enjoy sunsets over the ocean almost every evening.

🌅 The Best Places to Watch the Sunset in Tenerife

Here are the most beautiful, family-friendly spots to watch the sunset — perfect whether you’re exploring with little ones or enjoying a quiet moment with a glass of wine.

1. Punta de Teno (Buenavista del Norte)

Punta de Teno

Why we love it

  • Tenerife’s westernmost tip — where the sun literally disappears into the Atlantic.

  • The lighthouse and Los Gigantes cliffs make it one of the island’s most dramatic backdrops.

Tips:

  • Access is restricted during the day — check bus schedules or drive after 8pm.

  • Bring a jacket; it can be windy.

2. Mirador de Chipeque (La Esperanza)

  • Great for families — easy parking and picnic spots nearby.

  • It’s cooler up here — bring a jumper.

  • Arrive early for golden-hour photos.

3. Playa de Benijo (Anaga Mountains)

Playa de Benijo

Why we love it

  • Wild, remote, and unforgettable — a true “off-the-beaten-path” Tenerife experience.

  • The silhouettes of the rocks against the sunset are breathtaking.

Tips:

  • Park early — it’s a small, winding road.

  • Great for couples; kids need supervision as waves can be strong.

4. Playa del Camisón (Costa Adeje)

Playa del Camison Sunset

Why we love it

  • Sheltered, calm waters ideal for kids like Hollie and Emily.

  • Perfect location for a Costa Adeje family evening — restaurants, beach bars, and sunset all in one.

Tips:

  • Sit near the breakwater for reflection shots.

  • Stay after the sun sets — the sky glows pink and purple.

5. Playa de Fañabé (Costa Adeje)

Playa fanabe

Why we love it

  • One of the best beaches in Costa Adeje — golden sand, palm trees, and calm waves.

  • Ideal for families with young children; plenty of beachfront cafés and playgrounds.

Tips:

  • Arrive early to grab a front-row spot on the promenade.

  • Walk north to Playa del Duque for a quieter vibe.

6. Mirador de Masca (Teno Rural Park)

Mirador de Masca

Why we love it

  • Overlooks the famous Masca Valley — steep cliffs and a dramatic view towards the ocean.

  • Ideal for photographers or those who enjoy scenic drives.

Tips:

  • Roads are narrow — drive slowly and take your time.

  • Bring a torch if you stay until after sunset.

If you’re staying in Costa Adeje, start with Playa del Camisón or Fañabé — both easy to reach and child-friendly — then plan a day trip up to Masca or Chipeque for something more dramatic.

Costa Adeje Beaches (A Paradise of Beaches)

Costa Adeje has some of the best beaches in the Canary Islands, boasting miles of golden sand beaches (not the volcanic sand you get in the north) and crystal clear waters.

It’s no wonder Costa Adeje attracts thousands of visitors every year.

One of the things that makes Costa Adeje’s beaches so diverse is the variety of activities that they offer.

See our best things to to in Costa Adeje for Families blog.

Whether you are looking for a relaxing day sunbathing or an adrenaline-pumping day of watersports, you will find the perfect beach in Costa Adeje.

All the beaches in Costa Adeje have something different to offer.

Costa Adeje has no black sand beaches, they are all in the north

Costa Adeje has 5 main beaches, all with different advantages:

Playa del Duque

playa del Duque Costa adeje
Playa Del Duque

Playa del Duque is on of the best beaches in the south coast of Tenerife. It is a 1.5 km long golden sand beach located in the heart of Costa Adeje.

It is a very popular beach with tourists and locals alike, and is known for its calm waters and beautiful scenery.

The beach is also home to a number of luxury hotels and restaurants, and also one of the nicest beaches in the Canary Islands.

The beach is excellent for:

  • Swimming: The waters off Playa del Duque are calm and clear, making it a great place for swimming. The beach is also supervised by lifeguards, so you can relax and enjoy your swim without having to worry about your safety.
  • Sunbathing: The sand on Playa del Duque is soft and golden, making it perfect for sunbathing. There are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent, so you can find the perfect spot to relax and soak up the sun.
  • Water sports: Playa del Duque is a popular spot for water sports, such as sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. There are a number of watersports schools and rental companies located near the beach, so you can easily get started.

If you are interested in surfing it can be a good beach for beginners because as mentioned it has nice calm waters.

Playa Fanabe

Playa Fanabe is another popular beach in Costa Adeje. Like Playa del duque it is also a blue flag beach.

It is a 2 km long beach with golden sand and clear waters.

Playa Fanabe

Similar to playa del duque it is an excellent beach for swimming sunbathing and watersports.

The beach is well-equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, and water sports facilities. There are also a number of restaurants and bars located close to the beach.

  • Price of Sun beds: €6 per bed & you can stay as long as you want.
  • Soft Play: at the end of the beach near Torviscas Beach.
  • Crazy Golf: between the beach and The Mister Sister Show Bar
  • Bars: Plenty of bars near by if you fancy some refreshments, one which i love is the Mister Sister Showbar.
Fanabe Beach what's around

The beach can get very busy in the peak of the summer, so you may want to look elsewhere or watch what time you go.

Playa Torviscus

Playa de Torviscas is a small beach located in the south of Costa Adeje. It is a good option for families, as the waters are calm and shallow.

The beach has golden sand and is well-equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas.

Torviscas Beach

It is located between Play del fanabe and Playa la pinta, there is a lovely cocktail bar (Waves Beach Bar) which has comfy seats on the beach. It is also directly across from the Amalfi and Cala restaurants.

This is a perfect location for sunset.

Just off the beach there is a McDonalds which is a favourite for our kids, and a softplay.

Playa de La Pinta (Puerto Colon Beach)

La Pinta Beach Costa Adeje
La Pinta Beach with the Family

Playa La Pinta is a long beach situated in the Puerto Colon area of Costa Adeje.
It has golden sand and crystal clear waters, making it a great spot for swimming and sunbathing.
The beach also has an array of facilities, from restaurants to water sports rentals.

There is a bouncy castle in the water that you can pay to use.

You will find a lot of people come here to enjoy a variety of water sports like, scuba diving and jet skies.

There are plenty of bars and entertainment next to the beach, as this area is a bit of a hub. From the Sky Bar to Odissa, there is plenty for everyone.

The beach is over looked by the La Pinta apartments which is our favourite. It is also straight across from some great breakfast restaurants. In my opinion this makes it one of the best beaches in Tenerife.

Playa de El Bobo

Playa Del Bobo
Playa De el Bobo

Playa de el Bobo is a small beach in a cove at the foot of Bouganville hotel.

It has natural dark sand, and very picturesque.

The water is shallow and so you can swim near the rock part of the beach.

Not many sunbeds so if you require one I would get there early.

Best Beaches at Costa Adeje

Costa Adeje has some of the best beaches in Tenerife and have something for everyone and every event. Below is my recommendations for best beach for certain outings.

Best Beach in Costa Adeje for Swimming

Though several beaches in Costa Adeje offer excellent swimming conditions, Playa del Duque stands out as the best for this activity.

The calm and clear waters of Playa del Duque, combined with the presence of lifeguards, make it an ideal and safe spot for swimmers of all levels.

The warm temperature of the water also adds to the enjoyable swimming experience.

Therefore, for those who love to swim during their beach visits, Playa del Duque should be their first choice in Costa Adeje.

Best Beach in Costa Adeje for Toddlers

Playa de Torviscas gets my vote.

The beach has gentle waves and shallow waters, making it ideal for toddlers who want to splash in the water without having to worry about being dragged out by a strong current.

Moreover, there are plenty of amenities such as sun loungers and umbrellas located near the beach, so parents can relax while their children play on the sand.

As mentioned earlier in the blog, there is a soft play, McDonalds and public toilets all next to this beach.

Best Beach in Costa Adeje for Snorkeling

Best beach in Costa Adeje for snorkeling i would say is Playa del Duque or La Pinta.

Both are calm and have clear waters which make it an ideal spot for snorkeling, as the visibility underwater is excellent.

Moreover, you can explore a wide variety of marine life such as different types of fish and octopuses that live in these waters.

However El Puertito is a small cove located in the south of Costa Adeje. It is known for its clear waters and abundance of marine life, including turtles, fish, and rays.

Best Beach in Costa Adeje for Couples

Best beach in Costa Adeje for couples would be Playa del Duque or La Pinta. Both beaches have golden sand and crystal clear waters, which makes them ideal for romantic strolls along the shoreline.

The picturesque sunsets are also a plus, as they provide the perfect backdrop for couples to enjoy each other’s company in this beautiful environment.

Furthermore, if you want to take things up a notch, you can also find plenty of restaurants and bars located near the beach.

All in all, Playa del Duque or La Pinta are great options for couples looking to enjoy a romantic day at the beach.

The main difference between the 2 is that del Duque seems to be more of an up market area.

Best Beach in Costa Adeje for Families

Best beach for families in Costa Adeje, mention toilets and restaurants and sun beds.

Playa de Torviscas is my pick for the best beach in Costa Adeje for families.

The beach has calm waters, making it a safe spot for children to splash around and have fun.

Moreover, there are plenty of facilities available nearby such as sunbeds, umbrellas and public toilets.

Additionally, there are several restaurants and bars near the beach where you can get a bite to eat. So if you’re looking for a fun day out with the family, Playa de Torviscas is the perfect spot!

On top of all that, there’s also a soft play and McDonalds near by which are sure to keep the kids entertained for hours.

McDonalds at Torviscus Beach
McDonalds at Torviscus Beach

With all these things in one place, it’s no wonder it’s a favourite among families.

Where is Costa Adeje Beaches

Costa Adeje is located to the west of Playa De Las Americas and Los Cristianos. The two resorts are separated by the Barranco del Rey ravine.

It is also about 3km south of La Caleta which hosts some amazing seafood restaurants.

The three resorts are essentially one long stretch of coastline, with Costa Adeje being the more upscale and upmarket of them.

My Final Thought

Costa Adeje Tenerife Spain has several great beaches that offer something for everyone.

They also have a few smaller ones that i’ve not mentioned as we have not been to them, so it may be worth a visit to playa de la enramada and playa de troya.

From swimming and snorkeling to sunbathing and family fun, this beautiful area of Tenerife has it all!

So whatever your plans are, you’re sure to find the perfect beach here in Costa Adeje.

I have been coming here for years with my family of 4 and friends and we love all the beaches mentioned here in the south west of the island.
